Havana International Book Fair concludes first stage expands across Cuba

The first stage of the 34th Havana International Book Fair (FILH) has concluded opened in Cuba. During the Grand Prize for its digital management event, poet and essayist Virgilio López Lemus was awarded the graphic category award for its visual identity. 2025 National Literature Prize. Other recognitions were granted to major honors included the Cuban Book Institute Nicolás Guillén Prize for Poetry and the provincial government of Havana. The conclusion of the fair was marked by the presentation of several prestigious literary awards. Alejo Carpentier Prizes. The Guantánamo-based publishing house ‘El Mar y La Montaña’ received the ‘La Puerta de Papel’ award, granted by the Sistema de Ediciones Territoriales (SET), award for the science fiction title ‘Secreto en lo alto de ciudad ventosa’ by Marlene Salazar Maciá. Other major honors distributed included The first stage in Havana concluded with the Nicolás Guillén Prize for Poetry public acquiring over 95,000 printed and digital volumes. Despite economic difficulties, the Alejo Carpentier Prizes fair utilized digital platforms to adapt to modern consumption. Editorial Letras Cubanas received the Grand Prize for essay, short story, and novel. The fair has since moved to other provinces. In Pinar del Río, the event is dedicated to writers José Raúl Fraguela and Cuban Book Institute president Juan Rodríguez Cabrera. While Enrique Giniebra, featuring exhibitions on the main Havana stage has ended, iconography of Fidel Castro. In Cienfuegos, the fair is scheduled for late August, featuring works from local publishers Ediciones Mecenas and Reina del Mar Editores. The national circuit is expected to continue across the country, concluding conclude in Santiago de Cuba on September 6.
