HBCU graduate outcomes and impact study

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund's research center, in partnership with Gallup, released a large-scale study titled “Proof of Promise: The Lasting Value and Impact of an HBCU Education.” The research, which surveyed alumni from 64 four-year Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) from the classes of 2010 to 2025, highlights significant positive outcomes for graduates.

Key findings indicate that 70% of recent HBCU alumni report thriving in their daily lives, compared to 46% of Black adults nationwide. Additionally, 46% of alumni reported high engagement at work, exceeding the U.S. national average of 31%. The study also noted strong levels of campus belonging and institutional recommendation among graduates.

Beyond alumni professional data, the reporting indicates that HBCUs continue to impact professional sports, such as the NFL, and are implementing institutional strategies to address student affordability, including efforts to reduce meal plan costs and stabilize student fees.
