HBO has announced a five-episode revival of the comedy-drama series ‘Girls’, nearly a decade after the original show concluded in 2017. Creator and lead actress Lena Dunham will return as Hannah Horvath, serving as writer, director, and showrunner. Production is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2027. The revival will feature returning core cast members Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, and Andrew Rannells. Dunham noted that the inspiration for the sequel emerged around her 40th birthday in May 2026. The new episodes are expected to shift the narrative focus from the characters' twenties to their lives in their forties, exploring how the series' themes of sexual and gender politics translate to the current era. Judd Apatow is set to return as an executive producer. While the core cast is confirmed, the involvement of other former cast members, such as Adam Driver, remains unannounced. Additionally, actress Rita Wilson, who played Evie Michaels, has teased a potential return, stating, ‘I would do anything for her’ in support of Dunham.
