Reports have emerged regarding Production developments for the production status of upcoming HBO Harry Potter television projects at Warner Bros. Information indicates series continue to emerge. Reports indicate that a prequel series centered on the Marauders—focusing on the characters James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew—was previously in development. This project project, which would have explored the creation of the Marauder's Map and the rise of Voldemort, reportedly had a completed writers’ room and scripts for the first three episodes before being cancelled by CEO David Zaslav. The cancellation appears to be a strategic shift to prioritize a full adaptation of the seven original novels into a new HBO series. Regarding the upcoming main adaptation, casting news has confirmed that British comedian Peter Serafinowicz will portray Peeves the Poltergeist, a character from the books that was absent from the original film adaptations. Producer David Heyman noted that while Rik Mayall originally filmed scenes for the character in the first movie, Peeves was removed because his presence was deemed “too distracting” and slowed the plot's pacing. In the new series, creators Mark Mylod and Francesca Gardiner have reportedly found ways to integrate the character more effectively into the narrative.
