HBO Max announced the addition of new content to its library, including the psychological thriller ‘Bugonia’ and the Mexican melodrama ‘Colisión’. Produced by Telemundo Studios, ‘Colisión’ is a 39-episode series focusing on a family power struggle following the death of a patriarch. The plot follows Zoé, played by Macarena Achaga, as she returns to Mexico to lead the family business and faces opposition from her mother, Belén, played by Margarita Rosa de Francisco. The series explores themes of ambition, family secrets, mental health, and grief. Following the initial announcement, it was confirmed that ‘Colisión’ will premiere on the platform on September 7, with episodes released on a weekly basis. On September 8, the platform released ‘Colisión’, marking its first original Mexican telenovela. Based on works by Spanish author Corín Tellado, the production aims to modernize the genre by utilizing a cinematic approach directed by three different filmmakers. This stylistic choice is intended to move away from traditional romantic tropes to focus on visceral mother-daughter dynamics and provide a “more dignified portrayal of the genre.”
