HD Hyundai is expanding its technological capabilities and global footprint through new partnerships and strategic investments. HD Hyundai Marine Engine has secured a licensing agreement with WinGD to manufacture two-stroke marine propulsion engines, including dual-fuel models capable of using LNG, ammonia, LPG, and methanol to meet environmental regulations. This agreement complements its existing technology lines from Everllence, allowing the company to produce engines from two major global technology providers to meet decarbonization demands. Under this partnership, the companies will share knowledge to reduce costs and improve vessel design integration for WinGD’s mid-bore engine portfolio, specifically the X52 and X62 series. The collaboration aims to expand the delivery of WinGD’s dual-fuel and diesel engine designs for bulk carrier and tanker newbuild projects in Korea and international markets. This specialized focus on small and mid-sized two-stroke engines complements the large engine expertise of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, which maintains a separate license agreement with WinGD for ultra-large container vessels and LNG carriers. Simultaneously, HD Hyundai reported strong third-quarter financial results, with revenue increasing 21.2 percent and operating profit rising 71.5 percent compared to the previous year. The company achieved a consolidated revenue of 22.08 trillion won and an operating profit of 2.52 trillion won, driven by performance in the shipbuilding, offshore, and construction machinery sectors. To enter the North American market, the company has formed a joint venture with Kiewit called HD Kiewit Shipbuilding, in which HD Hyundai expects to hold a majority stake of over 50 percent. Shipbuilding. This venture intends to build an advanced smart shipyard in the United States, with construction scheduled to begin in 2027 and full operations targeted for 2029. The facility aims to support the MASGA (Korea-US shipbuilding cooperation) project, targeting US Navy logistics vessels and commercial ships while creating approximately 3,000 local jobs.
