HDFC Bank offshore bond issuance
Overview
HDFC Bank initiated a $1.75 billion offshore bond issuance through its GIFT City branch, consisting of $500 million in three-year senior unsecured notes and $1.25 billion in five-year notes. The fundraising aimed to mobilize foreign currency deposits from non-resident Indians ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s scheduled closure of the FCNR(B) special deposit window.
Following the issuance, the bank completed the dual-tranche transaction, which attracted approximately $7 billion in investor orders. The proceeds are designated for funding foreign branches, supporting business expansion, and general corporate purposes. The notes are set to be listed on the India International Exchange (IFSC) Limited and the NSE International Exchange. The deal is noted as one of the largest debt capital market fundraisings by an Indian financial institution.
