Brazilian comedian and SBT presenter Carlos Alberto de Nóbrega, 90, was hospitalized at Hospital Sírio-Libanês in São Paulo following months of fatigue. Medical teams reported that a Coxsackie virus type 2 infection had aggravated a pre-existing heart failure condition, resulting in complications such as bradycardia, arrhythmias, and post-viral myocarditis. Following a period of clinical improvement and successful rehabilitation, de Nóbrega underwent surgery to implant a cardiac pacemaker on Tuesday, October 20. The procedure was necessary to correct heart rhythm dysfunctions caused by the viral infection. On Friday, October 23, his wife, Dr. Renata de Nóbrega, confirmed that he has been discharged from the hospital. Upon returning to his residence, de Nóbrega noted home renovations completed during his absence, including the installation of a new panoramic elevator. While he previously expressed intentions to resume work quickly, his wife noted that he will remain under medical observation for the next month to monitor the results of the surgical procedure and the functionality of the device. While the surgery was successful, there is currently no set date for his return to filming his long-running program, ‘A Praça é Nossa’.
