Delaware-based company Heatbit has announced Bitwater, a residential heating element designed to mine Bitcoin while heating water. The device replaces the standard resistive coil in existing electric water tanks with mining chips, such as 20 Bitmain BM1370 chips, to perform SHA-256 hashing. The system uses the water being heated as a coolant, which the company claims allows for quiet operation without loud fans. Technical specifications indicate the hardware can deliver up to 34 TH/s of hashing power with a power consumption of approximately 600 watts. The unit is designed for 30- to 80-gallon tanks common in the US and Canada and is compatible with major brands including A.O. Smith, Rheem, Whirlpool, Bradford White, and Whirlpool. GE. A companion app is available to allow users to monitor water temperature, hashrate, and mining earnings. Preorders for the device have opened, with an initial ‘Genesis batch’ priced at $899 and subsequent batches reaching up to $1,299. While the device provides heat and Bitcoin simultaneously, estimates suggest a return on investment could take between 2 and 3.6 years depending on Bitcoin prices and mining difficulty. Shipments are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
