By early August 2026 the heatwave that had covered France, Belgium and Algeria intensified, with daytime temperatures reaching 37‑38 °C and tropical nights above 20 °C. Orange heat‑wave alerts remained in place while a cooler Atlantic air mass triggered violent thunderstorms across France from 2 August onward.
