Production for the 22nd season of ‘Germany’s Next Topmodel’ has officially begun in Munich. The broadcaster ProSieben announced that host Heidi Klum has welcomed contestants to start the new cycle, which is scheduled to air in spring 2027. The competition will maintain diverse casting standards regarding height, weight, and gender. Heidi Klum has confirmed that the season 22 finale will return to a live broadcast format in 2027. This move follows a controversial decision during the 21st season to pre-record the finale in Los Angeles, which resulted in a significant spoiler leak. Winners Aurélie Carina and Ibrahim ‘Ibo’ Ouro-Bodi were identified via ‘Harper’s Bazaar’ magazine covers before the episode aired. Klum expressed disappointment regarding the leak, noting it “diminished the excitement for both the models and the viewers.” During an Instagram Q&A, Klum reinforced her preference for the live format, responding “JAAAA auf jeden Fall” (YES, definitely) when asked if the upcoming finale would be broadcast live. While ProSieben has remained more reserved in its official statements, confirming only that filming has successfully started, the return to live broadcasting aims to restore the suspense lost during the previous season. Klum has since expressed enthusiasm for the new cycle on Instagram, stating she is looking forward to ‘new models, new stories, and plenty of challenges.’ In addition to this production, Klum is reportedly in early-stage discussions with Netflix regarding a potential large-scale TV project. These talks reportedly involved a meeting in Munich with Katja Hofem, the head of Netflix Germany, though no formal contracts have been signed.
