A global research consortium led by Johns Hopkins University has launched a five-year study involving researchers from the United States, Brazil, India, Senegal, and Uganda. In a separate development, Sechenov University and R-Pharm have begun developing a gene-editing treatment using CRISPR-Cas9 technology. Supported by the Academician E.P. Velikhov grant, this approach utilizes biocompatible nanoparticles to target viral DNA in liver cells. The goal of this method is to achieve a complete cure via a single injection while minimizing risks to the human genome.
