The Open Monumentendagen (Open Heritage Days) initiative in Belgium and the Netherlands is centering its activities continues to focus on the theme of ‘Resilient Heritage – In Times of Uncertainty’ or ‘In goede handen’ (In good hands). In Brugge, Belgium, activities in Brugge include the 38th edition of the Open Monumentenweekend is Monumentenweekend, featuring 19 locations and nine activities, providing insights into activities focused on the management and restoration of historical sites, including such as private residences and bunkers. In Merelbeke-Melle, programming includes tours of the Schelderomolen and exhibitions at the Sint-Bavokerk. In West Flanders, the province will participate on September 13, 2026. Highlights in Kortrijk include observing monument wardens using specialized rope and rappel techniques to inspect the Augustinian Monastery roof, alongside ‘Moving masterclasses’ regarding interior preservation. Other Belgian locations include the Provincial Court in Bruges and the Atlantic Wall Raversyde in Ostend, which will demonstrate the craftsmanship required to safeguard regional heritage. In the Netherlands, activities in Weert focus on the 200-year history of the Zuid-Willemsvaart canal, including an exhibition at the Paterskerk. Other scheduled activities include exhibitions at Museum ’t Oude Slot in Veldhoven and cultural tours at the Thiemeloods in Nijmegen.
