The military announced probes into the January 2024 deaths of five-year-old Hind Rajab and her family, as well as the March 2025 killing of 15 Palestinian paramedics and emergency workers in Tel al-Sultan. Regarding the Rajab case, the IDF admitted for the first time that its troops fired on the vehicle carrying the child and her relatives, reversing previous claims that soldiers were not within firing range. The investigation will also examine the shooting of a Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance that attempted to rescue the child.

Family members have expressed skepticism toward the military probe. Hind Rajab’s grandmother stated that the family views the investigation as an attempt by the military to “justify” the killings to the international community rather than a genuine pursuit of accountability. While the Israeli foreign ministry maintains the investigation demonstrates the country is a “law-abiding democracy,” the HRF has criticized these selective investigations as a “maskerade,” expressing no confidence that they will lead to genuine justice.
