Students in Poland and Germany are participating in various historical educational initiatives focused on regional heritage and the memory of past conflicts. In Kraków, German students from Adam-Kraft-Gymnasium Schwabach visited the Old Town, the Marienkirche, and the Jewish quarter of Kazimierz to study the city’s complex heritage. Simultaneously, local students from XLIII Liceum w Krakowie explored the Podgórze district and the Museum of Podgórze to learn about the area’s history and its unification with the city. Further educational efforts include visits to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp by students from Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. P. Wysockiego in Warce. In Lubin, eighth-grade students engaged in living history lessons by hearing personal testimonies from Antonina Buchta, a survivor of Siberian exile, regarding life during deportation. In Kutno, students have been participating in educational walks to explore the history of the city’s former Jewish community. Led by educator Bożena Gajewska and organized by the ‘Friends and Families of the Jews of Kutno’ Foundation, the tours guide participants through landmarks such as the Great Synagogue and the former Public Primary School No. 3, which once hosted ‘Szabasówki’ for Jewish children. This initiative, supported by the President of Kutno, has engaged both primary and high school students throughout September and October.
