Hoka has released several new footwear models focused on specialized performance. The brand introduced the Clifton Pro, a training shoe featuring a super-critical EVA midsole called ProGlide+ and an increased stack height, and the Speedgoat 7, a trail shoe designed for long-distance runs with a softer, more dynamic feel compared to its predecessor. Following these releases, the company introduced the Tecton X 4 trail running shoe. This fourth iteration of the Tecton X series features redesigned carbon plates that are invisible from the exterior, updated foam, and a reduced overall weight, while utilizing the PROFLY X cushioning system and a Vibram Megagrip outsole. Detailed technical specifications for the Tecton X 4 highlight its use of dual parallel carbon fiber plates and two layers of PEBA midsole foam, including a softer compound positioned directly under the foot to increase responsiveness. The shoe incorporates a Matryx Micro textile upper designed to be breathable, durable, and hydrophobic to prevent blistering and stretching. While the design aims to balance propulsion with stability for technical terrain and ultra-marathons, some reviewers noted that the tight opening can make the shoe difficult to put on and that the upper may allow dust and sand to enter.
