In the first half of 2026, San Luis Potosí reported the second-lowest intentional homicide rate in Mexico at 0.9 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to a national average of 6.7. State officials credited this reduction to an integrated security strategy and various social welfare programs, such as educational scholarships and community infrastructure development. In subsequent legal developments, the San Luis Potosí State Attorney General's Office arrested a priority target, identified as Andrés “N”, in connection with a homicide that occurred on June 6, 2026. He remains in custody awaiting judicial proceedings. By late August 2026, law enforcement actions in the state expanded to include several other arrests for violent and various criminal offenses. In Tamazunchale, Christian “N” was detained for the alleged aggravated rape of a minor, while in Aquismón, Paula “N” was arrested for causing aggravated injuries to a teenager. In Venado, authorities apprehended Dolores “N” for the alleged homicide of a relative following a land dispute. Additionally, Horacio “N” was arrested in Monterrey for the alleged sale of a stolen vehicle via social media.
