Honduran police officer fatalities

Overview

In late September, an armed attack on a highway in the Intibucá department of Honduras resulted in the deaths of two men. Among the victims was José Armando Pinto, a 26-year-old active member of the National Police who was on leave to attend a training course. The victims were traveling in an SUV when they were targeted by gunfire, causing the vehicle to strike an electrical pole. Investigators suggested the occupants may have been pursued prior to the shooting.

In mid-October, another off-duty police officer, 32-year-old Anner Otoniel Pastor García, was killed during an intervention at a car dealership in the capital. Pastor García, a member of the Anti-Extortion and Terrorist Associations Division (DAET), attempted to prevent a robbery and successfully subdued two suspects before two additional individuals arrived and opened fire on him. He later died from his injuries at a medical center.
