President Nasry Asfura has implemented several changes within his administration. On October 30, 2026, the President removed three high-ranking officials: Minister of Education Ivette Arely Argueta, Honduran Institute of Land Transport president commissioner Emilio Maldonado, and Honduran Institute of Agricultural Marketing general manager Allan Castillo. The President’s Private Secretary, Luis Castro, stated these removals were based on institutional performance evaluations rather than corruption allegations. Castro noted the administration uses a performance semaphore system to monitor results and clarified that the government is currently evaluating candidates to fill the vacancies. This restructuring received support from the Honduran Council of Private Enterprise (Cohep) and the Association for a More Just Society (ASJ), both of which emphasized the importance of meritocracy and efficiency. Following these dismissals, former National Party deputy Jorge Zelaya criticized the President for the frequency of his international travels, arguing that these trips lack tangible results for the economic and social needs of the population. Zelaya specifically questioned recent visits to Spain, Italy, Washington, and Miami. He noted that during a meeting with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, the President could have addressed the situation of Hondurans protected by Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Mireya Agüero confirmed that President Asfura is scheduled to attend the XXX Ibero-American Summit in Madrid, Spain, on November 4 and 5, 2026. The summit will cover topics such as trade, investment, and artificial intelligence.
