The Honduran government has initiated several long-term domestic and economic strategies. The Council of Ministers approved a National Housing and Human Settlements Policy via executive decree to address a deficit of approximately 1.6 million units. This 15-year plan aims to construct 550,000 new homes and renovate 750,000 existing structures through collaboration between public and private sectors. Simultaneously, the country is working toward meeting structural targets set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Roberto Lagos, president of the Central Bank of Honduras, reported that 11 of the 17 established targets have been fulfilled. Remaining commitments include the implementation of a Single Registry of Beneficiaries and reforms related to the National Electric Energy Company (ENEE). Progress in the electricity subsector has seen short-term debt to generators decrease from 15 billion to 7.4 billion lempiras. Completing the next IMF review could grant Honduras access to over $120 million in concessional funds. Beyond economic metrics, an IMF mission met with the President of the Judiciary, Wagner Vallecillo, to discuss judicial challenges including digitalization and the reduction of case backlogs. The IMF has expressed interest in supporting justice-related matters within the country.
