Hong Kong power voltage drop incident
Overview
On Tuesday afternoon, a sudden voltage drop occurred along a 400-kilovolt power line managed by CLP Power, connecting Lai Chi Kok to Tsz Wan Shan. Although the power supply remained uninterrupted, the dip caused flickering lights and the failure of sensitive electronic devices in parts of Kowloon and the New Territories.
The incident led to widespread disruptions, including approximately 178 to 179 reports of individuals trapped in lifts and 39 reports of falsely triggered fire alarms, particularly in the Yau Tsim Mong district. Four women aged 68 to 71 were injured during the lift entrapments, with three requiring hospitalization for discomfort and shortness of breath. CLP Power is investigating the cause of the drop.
