On August 16, 2026, Honor launched its Robot Phone, a device integrating smartphone capabilities with a motorized three-axis mechanical gimbal. Developed in collaboration with ARRI, the handset is designed for professional videography, supporting 10-bit ARRI LogC3 recording, ARRI Wide Gamut 3, and ARRI Looks. The gimbal system features a titanium-alloy 4-degree-of-freedom (4-DoF) design capable of rotating up to 360 degrees per second, enabling AI-driven subject tracking for hands-free vlogging and cinematic shots. Technical specifications include a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED display with 6,800 nits peak brightness, and a 7,060 mAh silicon-carbon battery with 120W wired charging. The camera array consists of a 200-megapixel main sensor on the gimbal, a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with 2.7x optical zoom, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens. The hardware is supported by the Honor H1 chip, processing signals in a 14-bit 4:4:4 RAW format. By August 26, Honor clarified that the Robot Phone’s mechanical system is intended to maintain a wider field of view and utilize native pixels for 4K video, avoiding the quality loss typically associated with digital cropping and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS). While the device is showcased at the Honor Alpha Global Flagship Store in Shenzhen, international availability is emerging via importers in Europe. These models often face prices ‘30% to 36% more than domestic Chinese versions’ and may lack eSIM, Android Auto, or local warranty support. Additionally, the device has faced scrutiny regarding privacy concerns due to its automated camera movement and its physical thickness of approximately 9.6 mm. High maintenance costs also remain a factor, with specialized robotic module replacements estimated at $457 and motherboard repairs for the 1 TB model reaching $981.
