HONOR has transitioned from testing mobile content creation technologies to launching specialized hardware. Initial developments focused on the HONOR 600 Series, which utilized AI-driven tools like ‘Image to Video 2.0’ and CIPA 6.0 certification for video stabilization. During this phase, the company was also reportedly testing hardware prototypes, including devices with secondary rear displays and high-capacity batteries. This evolution culminated in the introduction of the Robot Phone, a device featuring a built-in 3-axis motorized mechanical gimbal. This ~~new~~ hardware includes a 200MP gimbal main camera and a 200MP periscope telephoto lens. Through a collaboration with ARRI, the device supports cinematic film color curves and preset styles. The Robot Phone also introduces ‘YOYO Robot Mode’ for interactive communication via gimbal movements and screen expressions. Technical specifications for the Robot Phone highlight a compact 4DoF mechanical system and a 2.6g titanium alloy motor, designed to provide high-speed stabilization within a slim chassis. Unlike standard electronic image stabilization (EIS) which can crop sensor edges and reduce sharpness, this mechanical solution is designed to maintain the full sensor field of view and native 4K resolution.
