Hormel Foods corporate and financial updates
Overview
Hormel Foods Corporation underwent leadership and financial shifts during the third quarter of fiscal 2026. Following the appointment of Ash Bhumbla as executive vice president and chief financial officer, the company reported mixed quarterly results.
While adjusted diluted earnings per share rose to $0.37, surpassing the consensus estimate of $0.36, total net sales declined 2.4% year-over-year to $2.96 billion, missing analyst expectations of $2.98 billion. The company noted that organic net sales declined by 2%. Interim CEO Jeff Ettinger stated that the company delivered “solid results” and is advancing its fiscal 2026 objectives.
Management attributed the sales decline to portfolio-shaping actions, lower commodity-based pricing, and a “pressured consumer environment.” Segment performance remained uneven: the Foodservice segment continued its strength with a 1.6% increase in net sales, marking its 12th consecutive quarter of organic growth, while the Retail segment saw a 4.3% decline and International net sales fell by 4.7%. CEO-elect John Ghingo also attributed the sales decline to portfolio-shaping actions and consumer pressure.
GAAP net earnings dropped to $59.6 million, impacted by several significant charges, including a $56 million loss from a divestiture in Brazil, a $48 million non-cash impairment regarding an Indonesian investment, and a $38 million litigation settlement. Despite these charges, adjusted operating margins expanded to 9.0%. Consequently, management raised and narrowed its full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to a range of $1.45 to $1.51.
