Hospitalization and recovery of Brazilian Deputy Roberta Roma
Brazilian Federal Deputy Roberta Roma was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit at Hospital Cárdio Pulmonar in Salvador after suffering a heart attack during a campaign event in Cruz das Almas, Bahia. Initial medical procedures, including a cardiac catheterization, showed no significant coronary artery lesions, leading doctors to investigate “Takotsubo syndrome,” ‘Takotsubo syndrome,’ also known as “broken ‘broken heart syndrome.” syndrome.’ Following the initial hospitalization, Roma experienced recurring chest pains. Subsequent examinations, including electrocardiograms and echocardiograms, revealed coronary artery disease. Doctors performed a second catheterization to place a stent, which successfully restored blood flow to the heart muscle. Medical staff ruled out Takotsubo syndrome and reported that Roma was asymptomatic and in good clinical condition upon her discharge. She has been advised discharge, with advice to undergo outpatient follow-up and implement lifestyle adjustments, adjustments such as stress reduction. On October 15, Roma was admitted to the same hospital after experiencing chest pains for a second time in less than a month. Doctors diagnosed her with coronary vasospasm, a condition involving the temporary contraction of the heart's arteries. Following a five-day hospitalization involving medical monitoring and drug treatment, she was discharged on October 19. Recent tests confirmed that her previously implanted stent is functioning correctly and ruled out a new heart attack. She has been instructed to continue outpatient follow-up, rest, and lifestyle adjustments.
