Hostility toward Fabian Reese
Overview
Fabian Reese, a striker who transferred from Hertha BSC to VfL Wolfsburg, has faced significant backlash from supporters. Following a wave of online hostility and verbal abuse, Reese deactivated his Instagram account in October 2026.
In November 2026, ahead of a match at the Olympiastadion, Hertha BSC issued a call for respect toward their former captain and top scorer. The club acknowledged the emotions surrounding his 8 million euro transfer but maintained that Reese earned respect through his service to the team. Managing Director Peter Görlich emphasized a culture of appreciation, though the club noted it would not hold formal meetings with fan groups or implement a specific code of conduct for the match.
