Houston Texans early season performance

Overview

The Houston Texans fell to 0-3 following a 19-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. The game was decided in the final seconds when Colts kicker Spencer Shrader, despite playing through a groin injury sustained during pregame warmups, converted a 53-yard field goal with only 16 seconds remaining. Shrader also successfully converted four field goals during the contest, including a 58-yarder that matched his career record.

Houston briefly held a 17-16 lead late in the fourth quarter after a 1-yard touchdown run by Woody Marks, but a subsequent kickoff into the end zone provided the Colts with favorable field position. Quarterback CJ Stroud finished the contest with 167 passing yards and one touchdown. Following the loss, Stroud expressed frustration regarding the team’s “lack of explosive plays and offensive rhythm.” The Texans' offensive struggles were compounded by the absence of wide receiver Nico Collins, who was sidelined with a hamstring injury.

While the victory moves Indianapolis to 1-2 and snaps a nine-game losing streak for the Colts, the loss marks the second consecutive season the Texans have started 0-3. The Colts defense limited the Texans to 223 total yards and recorded three sacks against Stroud.
