In late July 2026, Erste Bank announced scheduled system maintenance in Hungary that would temporarily suspend digital services, including the George app, web services, online shopping, and instant transfers. The bank stated these upgrades were intended to “improve speed and security of its digital platforms.” By late August 2026, several other Hungarian financial institutions announced similar scheduled maintenance. OTP Bank planned disruptions to its card payment systems and Persely service, while MBH Bank scheduled outages affecting mobile app functions, netbank services, and SMS two-factor authentication. Specific outage schedules were detailed in late August. OTP Bank announced a 90-minute suspension of card payments, POS terminals, online payments, and cash withdrawals starting at 1 AM on August 25, with the Persely savings service unavailable all day on August 30. MBH Bank scheduled multiple windows, including mobile app loan services on August 27, potential SMS authentication issues overnight on August 28, and limited investment platform functionality on August 28 and 29. Further disruptions are expected for the former Budapest Bank Netbank service on September 5, and a significant outage for the MBH Bank App and Netbank starting at 10 PM on September 28. Erste Bank announced two extended outages: from 10 PM on September 18 until 10 AM on September 19, and from 10 PM on October 1 until 3 AM on October 2. During these periods, the George App, TeleBank, corporate netbanking, and instant transfers will be unavailable.
