Hungarian football club coaching and leadership changes

Recent developments in Hungarian football have seen leadership transitions at multiple clubs. At ETO FC, Balázs Borbély moved to Ferencváros despite having a year remaining on his contract. ETO FC owner Bálint Világi expressed disappointment regarding the abrupt nature of the departure and the fact that Borbély did not intend to take any current staff with him. Separately, Videoton FC appointed Balázs Bekő as head coach following the mutual termination of Tamás Pető’s contract. Pető’s departure followed a period of poor results that saw the team slip to 10th place. Bekő, a former player and assistant at the club, intends to focus on achieving positive results and integrating youth talent into the senior squad. At Ferencvárosi Torna Club (FTC), Gábor Kubatov has been re-elected as president for a four-year term. Following a general assembly at the Elek Gyula Arena, a nine-member board was established. Kubatov stated that despite “external political pressures and attacks,” he remains committed to the club and aims to achieve high professional goals, such as winning the Europa League. His re-election occurs amid discussions regarding a government legislative proposal that could retroactively prohibit former politicians from leading sports clubs with more than 500 members, though the proposal does not currently prevent his leadership.
