Bálint Ruff, Minister leading the Prime Minister’s Office and a key figure in the Tisza Party, has proposed several major policy shifts focused on economic reform and government transparency. Economic proposals include a wealth tax on incomes exceeding one billion forints and a restructuring of the KATA tax system by 2027. In terms of transparency and national security, Ruff announced plans to release approximately 100 classified decisions and former agent files to the Historical Archives of the State Security Services. He noted that while this disclosure is necessary, it may cause “significant distress for many families.” He also indicated that information regarding the past activities and travels of János Lázár would be made public. Furthermore, Ruff has pledged to investigate past government spending, specifically regarding the estimated 20-30 billion forints spent on research by the Századvég Institute and the past activities Institute—noting that over 7.6 billion forints was paid for studies between January and travels of János Lázár. He also criticized March 2026—and the volume of contracts signed under the ministry of Tibor Navracsics. Under the Tisza-led government, additional administrative changes include the reinstatement of mandatory membership in the Medical Chamber, doubling the social firewood budget to 10 billion forints, and freezing residential firewood prices at 2026 levels. The government is also launching new debt management programs to assist families in avoiding insolvency. Recent polling by the Publicus Institute shows the Tisza Party maintaining a 65% lead over Fidesz, which stands at 24%, though Péter Magyar’s personal suitability rating recently declined from 62% to 57%.
