The Hungarian government, led by Prime Minister Péter Magyar, has announced the revocation of operating rights for the M6 motorway from the Mészáros–Szíjj consortium. The administration stated the move aims to save 100 billion forints in public funds and indicated that legal charges would be filed regarding previous decisions made by János Lázár. The government intends to initiate a new competitive tender process for the motorway section. Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy has provided further details regarding the dispute, alleging that the previous proposal by MKIF Zrt.—a company linked to Lőrinc Mészáros and László Szíjj—was significantly overpriced. Vitézy claimed that MKIF’s bid for the 2026–2037 period for the section between Érd and Dunaújváros was approximately 149 billion HUF, whereas he asserted that comparable alternatives would cost a maximum of 51 billion HUF for the same technical scope. Vitézy further suggested that the previous decision to designate MKIF Zrt. as the operator lacked sufficient documentation and was made under prior political leadership. In response, MKIF Zrt. stated it has not received official notification of the decision and only learned of the move through the press. The company maintains it has acted in full compliance with the law and that the original contract was secured through an open public procurement process. MKIF Zrt. rejected allegations of illegal activity or overpricing, arguing that the Ministry’s price comparisons are misleading because they fail to account for specific technical requirements, service levels, financing conditions, risk profiles, and the comprehensive maintenance and renovation scope included in their bid.
