Hungarian musician Feró Nagy, frontman of the band Beatrice, has disclosed that his monthly state pension is 74,000 forints. Despite reaching his 80th birthday, Nagy continues to perform regularly to support his five grandchildren, supplementing his income through composition royalties, a radio program, and funds from his Kossuth Prize. Nagy also has addressed allegations from opposition media regarding his participation in political campaigns. He has denied receiving significant state subsidies or high performance fees for such involvement, stating, “I did not receive any money.” Specifically, he dismissed reports that he received 1.5 million forints to perform at a DPK event, labeling the claims “nonsense.” In a recent interview with Story Magazine, the Kossuth Prize winner expressed fear of potential repercussions involving the National Cultural Fund (NKA). While stating he is not actively against the current system, he noted a fear of being punished if his actions are perceived as such, drawing parallels to his experiences under the Kádár regime when he faced police scrutiny for his expressions. Regarding political figures, Nagy identified Gabika Tóth as the only person near Fidesz he finds credible. He also criticized musician Leslie Mándoki, expressing skepticism toward Mándoki’s recent political shifts and questioning why a former dissident would align with the current administration.
