Hungary National Cultural Fund corruption probe

Overview

The investigation into the National Cultural Fund (NKA) escalated in late July 2026 when prosecutors detained former cabinet chief Konczos Nóra on suspicion of serious breach of trust and embezzlement tied to fund management between 2018 and 2020. A house search at the Family‑friendly Hungary Center yielded servers and additional evidence, following earlier arrests of former NKA deputy chairman Bús Balázs and other officials.

By early August, Fidesz MP and former culture minister Hankó Balázs publicly denied any criminal liability, asserted his cooperation with investigators, and highlighted that his parliamentary immunity remained intact. He framed the scrutiny as politically motivated, while the probe continued to target multiple NKA employees.
