Under the Baross Gábor Railway Development Plan, Hungary is implementing a multi-faceted modernization of its transport infrastructure. The Ministry of Transport and MÁV have announced the procurement of 105 new air-conditioned double-decker buses for long-distance travel. Fifty of these vehicles are specifically intended to serve as replacements for rail services during major infrastructure upgrades. To support these developments, the Hungarian government plans to increase the railway infrastructure budget for 2027 from 30 billion to 80 billion forints. This increased additional funding is designated earmarked for smaller-scale track renovations, station reconstructions, and the removal of speed restrictions. A primary upcoming project includes the reconstruction of the main line section between the Városliget junction and Kőbánya-Kispest. Kőbánya-Kispest, scheduled for March 2027.
