In Poland, the District Court in Szczecin sentenced a hunter, Stanisław H., to two years and ten months in prison, while his assistant received thirteen months. The incident occurred in November 2023 at the Krzekowo Tactical Training Area, where the men entered without permits to hunt wild boar. A shot intended for what the defendant believed was an animal struck a soldier participating in military exercises, who subsequently died. The judge noted that the defendants fled the scene immediately after the shot.
In Germany, the Ludwigslust District Court sentenced a 52-year-old hunter to two years of probation for the negligent killing of a friend in January 2025. The defendant was using a rifle with high-magnification thermal imaging that rendered the target as an indistinct bright spot. Believing the spot was a wild boar, the hunter fired, striking his companion. The court ordered the defendant to pay 9,000 euros in compensation to the victim’s widow.
