Following the impact of Hurricane Isaias, utility companies in Alabama began large-scale power restoration efforts. Alabama Power reported that approximately 30,000 customers remained without electricity, supported by crews arriving from 25 different states. In Baldwin County, Baldwin EMC reported that power had been restored to all meters that could safely receive electricity after a peak outage affecting more than 52,000 meters. As recovery efforts continued, Governor Kay Ivey extended the state of emergency through October 28. This fourth supplemental proclamation was issued to maintain emergency measures while local and state officials manage initial damage assessments. The state of emergency was originally declared on October 7 when Isaias was classified as a tropical storm, prior to its intensification into a hurricane. In response to the disaster, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) granted tax relief to residents and businesses in parts of Alabama and Florida. In Alabama, taxpayers in 40 counties have until February 4, 2027, to file returns and make payments that were due on or after October 7. This relief covers various individual and business tax returns, including income, partnership, S corporation, estate, and trust returns. The IRS stated it will automatically identify eligible taxpayers in the covered disaster areas.
