Since early May, water and electricity utilities in Peru and Chile have implemented periodic service interruptions for maintenance and infrastructure upgrades. In Lima, Sedapal has conducted frequent water service suspensions through May, June, July, and August to facilitate reservoir cleaning, pipe splicing, and emergency repairs, such as those repairs. On August 8, Sedapal scheduled further interruptions in the Lima for pipe repairs. In San Juan de Miraflores and Miraflores, repairs to a broken pipe affected the Carlos H. Alvarado urbanization, while in the Ate district, repairs impacted various sectors of Pariachi. Utility maintenance has also expanded to other Peruvian regions. In Piura, EPS Grau reported that throughout July, technical teams cleaned 1,512 linear meters of sewage networks across the districts in early August. of Piura, Castilla, and Veintiséis de Octubre to address blockages and normalize wastewater evacuation. In Arequipa, Sedapar announced scheduled water service interruptions for August 18 to perform cleaning and disinfection of reservoirs and cisterns, specifically affecting parts of the Sabandía locality. Electricity providers have also scheduled outages. Pluz Energía conducted planned blackouts in Lima and Callao throughout late May, while state-owned Seal managed power interruptions in the Arequipa region during the same period. In early July, Chile’s Enel carried out electricity maintenance in several Santiago communes. Water utility maintenance has extended beyond Lima. In June, Ayacucho experienced phased water cuts for disinfection, and Arequipa’s Autodema scheduled supply suspensions in the Colca-Siguas system for July. Additionally, construction in the Chala district of Caravelí province necessitated a month-long highway closure in late June to facilitate water and sewage upgrades. In early July, Santiago’s Aguas Andinas Chile also reported included planned water outages by Aguas Andinas in early July for valve replacement work.
