The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has scheduled several lane and highway closures on I-405 in the Kirkland and Renton areas to facilitate infrastructure and transit projects. In late August, northbound lanes through Kirkland were scheduled for full closure to allow for fish passage restoration, specifically the installation of a concrete culvert to reconnect passages beneath the highway. By late September, construction activities shifted to include southbound closures between Renton and Kirkland. These works, part of the I-405 Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project, involve excavating drainage crossings and replacing pavement to support a new Bus Rapid Transit line. These closures also include specific on-ramps and off-ramps at Northeast 132nd Street. From September 25 to September 28, southbound I-405 will undergo closures between Exit 10 and Exit 6, running from Friday night through Monday morning. A signed detour will direct drivers from Coal Creek Parkway Southeast to SR-900/NE Sunset Boulevard. Drivers should expect road work on this detour route due to the King County Coal Creek Sewer Upgrade Project. Additionally, both northbound and southbound I-405 on-ramps and off-ramps at Northeast 132nd Street in Kirkland will be closed from the night of September 25 through September 28.
