Iberia has detailed its specific program of activities to commemorate its 2027 centenary, building upon its ‘Plan de Vuelo 2030’ and 6 billion euro investment strategy. The airline is moving forward with a visual rebranding that includes a new logo, a redesigned long-haul cabin interior, and a special centenary livery to be featured on select aircraft. Technological advancement remains a pillar of the expansion, with the progressive rollout of Starlink satellite connectivity to provide high-speed, free Wi-Fi. In Latin America, the airline is significantly increasing capacity, notably in Mexico, where it expects to provide over 820,000 seats between Mexico and Spain this year following the launch of the Madrid-Monterrey route. The centenary celebrations will include institutional, cultural, and corporate events across Spain and Latin America. President Marco Sansavini stated the celebrations will honor the airline’s employees and the more than one billion passengers who have flown with the carrier this century. Key initiatives include: • Interactive ‘Espacios Iberia’ locations in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Bogotá, and São Paulo. • A major institutional event scheduled for June 2027 at the La Muñoza hangars. • Cultural projects at Casa de América focusing on historical links between Spain and Latin America, alongside the ‘Generación del 27’ project to highlight young talent. As part of its historical commemorations, the airline is also marking the 80th anniversary of the introduction of cabin crew in Spain. This service debuted on October 15, 1946, during the airline’s first commercial transatlantic flight between Madrid and Buenos Aires. The inaugural crew consisted of four women: Pilar Mascías, Marichín Ruiz, María José Ugarte, and Ana Marsans. Looking toward 2027, Iberia is planning a significant expansion of its transatlantic network. The airline intends to double its flight frequencies to Boston, moving to two daily flights starting in late March 2027.
