The IBSA World Para Judo Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia, saw several athletes secure podium finishes. Romanian judoka Alexandru Bologa, a 2024 Paralympic champion, won his third world title in the J1 70 kg category after five consecutive victories. Moldovan athlete Ion Basoc achieved a historic milestone by winning gold in the J1 +90 kg category, marking the first gold medal ever won by a Moldovan representative at an IBSA World Championship. Basoc secured the title in the J1 category (over 90 kilograms) with a perfect run of four consecutive victories. During his campaign, he defeated opponents from Spain, Mongolia, Brazil, and Uzbekistan. His victory included a successful rematch against Brazil’s Wilians Silva de Araújo, the athlete who previously defeated Basoc in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games final and at the prior World Championship. Spanish competitors also earned medals on the opening day, with María Manzanero securing bronze in the J1 -52kg category and Sergio Ibáñez earning bronze in the J2 -70kg category.
