The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) is conducting public hearings for Operation Rosny, an inquiry into political misconduct and illegal donations in New South Wales. During the investigation, former NSW cabinet minister Eleni Petinos testified that she felt “disgusted” after allegedly being used in a plot by a developer to remove building commissioner David Chandler from office. The probe is examining allegations that Liberal Party figures solicited illegal donations through fraudulent contracts and whether fugitive developer Jean Nassif funded branch-stacking activities. Former NSW police minister David Elliott is also scheduled to provide evidence. Further developments have focused on Anita Perrottet. While not named a person of interest, investigators are examining whether she assisted her husband, Charles Perrottet, in receiving funds from Jean Nassif. Evidence suggests funds were paid into an account for Macquarie Consulting Pty Ltd, a company where Anita Perrottet is the sole director. Although it was suggested these payments were for legitimate consulting work, the ICAC reported finding no evidence that she performed such work during its four-year investigation. In recent testimony, Anita Perrottet addressed payments totaling approximately $660,999 received over a two-year period. Counsel assisting Dr. Peggy Dwyer, SC, characterized these as being for “spurious advice.” The inquiry is specifically examining a $2 million payment from Jean Nassif that was allegedly split between Jeremy Greenwood, Christian Ellis, and Charles Perrottet. It is alleged that Anita Perrottet assisted in laundering her husband’s share by issuing sham invoices through Macquarie Consulting to the lobbying firm Beckington. Investigators further claim that Mr. Ellis, rather than Mrs. Perrottet, dictated the invoice structuring to Charles Perrottet. During the seventh week of hearings, lobbyist Jeremy Greenwood testified regarding a missing fuchsia-colored slip of paper.
