Spanish rider Iker Lecuona has begun experimenting with his Ducati Panigale V4 R setup during the WorldSBK season. Following positive experiences during MotoGP sessions with Gresini Racing, Lecuona requested that his Aruba.it Racing team attempt to transpose MotoGP-style settings to his Superbike to find “those last tenths.” This technical experimentation yielded significant results at the Cremona Circuit in Italy. After leading practice sessions earlier in the weekend, Lecuona secured pole position by setting an all-time lap record during Superpole with a time of 1:27.253. Lecuona dominated the Italian Round by securing victories in both Race 1 and the Superpole Race. In Race 1, he led all 23 laps to finish 5.591 seconds ahead of teammate and championship leader Nicolo Bulega. Ultimately, Nicolò Bulega clinched the 2026 WorldSBK title at the Cremona Round, securing his first championship in the class. Despite Lecuona winning all three sessions of the weekend—including the Superpole Race and Race 2—Bulega’s second-place finish in the final race was sufficient to mathematically secure the title with two rounds remaining. Bulega’s championship season was defined by historic dominance, including a streak of 25 consecutive victories and winning 26 out of 30 races. He becomes only the second Italian rider to win the World Superbike title, following Max Biaggi. Bulega also makes history as the first rider to win world titles in both the World Supersport (WorldSSP) and World Superbike (WorldSBK) categories. Bulega is scheduled to transition to MotoGP ~~next season,~~ in 2027, where he will ride for the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing team ~~alongside Fermín Aldeguer.~~ under the mentorship of Valentino Rossi.
