This concentration of traffic may diminish or eliminate expected environmental benefits, such as CO2 emission reductions. The issue is compounded by algorithms that may lack visibility into the total volume of users being directed to specific routes or the directions provided by competing services. While the foundational location data is provided by a network of 31 GPS satellites, specific incident reports—including roadwork, flooding, or police sightings—are primarily driven by user-generated crowdsourcing, where subsequent drivers confirm reports to ensure accuracy.
