Medical facilities are beginning to implement pulsed field ablation (PFA) technology to treat atrial fibrillation. This method utilizes non-thermal pulsed electrical fields to target abnormal heart tissue, which is designed to minimize damage to surrounding structures like the esophagus compared to traditional heat or cold-based thermal ablation. In the Caribbean, Health City Cayman Islands performed the region’s first FARAPULSE procedure, a minimally invasive treatment intended to allow for rapid patient recovery. Subsequently, in the United States, the Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute became the first facility to participate in a clinical trial for a next-generation mapping and PFA system. This trial evaluates the safety and effectiveness of the technology using integrated 3D cardiac mapping to visualize electrical activity and catheter contact. Expanding into Europe, the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG) has successfully performed its first PFA procedures. The Department for Heart Rhythm Disorders and Cardiac Electrophysiology at the KCCG Cardiology Clinic treated two patients suffering from long-term atrial fibrillation that had led to heart failure. The procedure was conducted with support from cardiologist-arrhythmologist Nikola Pavlović from the Dubrava Clinical Hospital in Zagreb.
