In late July 2026 the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) completed Hospital General de Zona No. 10 in Guanajuato, a 120‑bed second‑level facility with intensive‑care units, operating rooms and an emergency department. The hospital is part of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s program to build 21 new IMSS hospitals and will serve more than 245,000 beneficiaries in the state and surrounding municipalities. A few days later IMSS announced a new Hospital General de Subzona in Chicoloapan, slated to open in January 2027 under the Plan Oriente initiative. The 57‑bed facility will offer ten medical specialties to over 107,000 residents, aiming to relieve pressure on existing regional centers in the eastern State of Mexico. In early August 2026 President Sheinbaum and Oaxaca Governor Salomón Jara Cruz inaugurated construction of the Hospital General Regional of IMSS in San Lorenzo Cacaotepec, the centerpiece of the Ciudad Salud “Ñuu Tata” complex. The site will house 530 beds (260 censable, 270 non‑censable), 53 consultorios, 57 specialties and up to 12 operating rooms, staffed by 2,826 health workers, and is expected to serve more than one million Oaxacans and up to four million people from neighboring states.
