Incheon International Airport has undertaken several strategic initiatives to improve operational efficiency and market competitiveness. Following a restructuring of parking management on July 1, the airport reported a reduction in parking congestion during the summer vacation season. To support a market projected to reach approximately 271 trillion KRW by 2035, the airport’s position in corporation plans to establish specialized sub-committees, such as an MRO Free Trade Zone (FTZ) Steering Committee and a Parts Maintenance Development Council. Recent developments regarding institutional reform have sparked debate following the global aviation maintenance market. South Korean government’s announcement to re-examine a proposed merger between Incheon International Airport Corporation and Korea Airports Corporation. While the Incheon Metropolitan Government viewed this as a de facto cancellation, critics argue that consolidating security organizations into a single agency may serve as a precursor to total institutional integration. Amidst these discussions, experts have called for the expedited progress of the stalled Phase 5 construction project to prevent potential airport saturation by 2033 and to maintain competitiveness against infrastructure expansions in China and Japan.
