Separate criminal investigations have been reported involving the deaths of elderly mothers at the hands of their adult sons. In Menidi, a 62-year-old man was arrested following the death of his 89-year-old mother. Forensic examinations indicated the cause of death was asphyxiation, with evidence of a struggle. While the suspect alleged a burglary, authorities noted an eight-hour delay between the estimated time of death and the emergency call. Neighbors reported a history of abuse involving the suspect. Further investigation revealed the victim was found by her 69-year-old nephew on Onouliou Street. Medical examiners identified bruises on the victim’s face and neck, alongside defensive wounds on her hands. The suspect, who reportedly has a history of drug use, mental health issues, and vision loss from a previous accident, is being investigated for premeditated murder. In a separate incident, Italian Carabinieri arrested a 47-year-old man following a manhunt. He is accused of suffocating his 74-year-old mother in Postumia, Slovenia, and subsequently setting fire to their residence to conceal evidence. The victim’s body was discovered in a garage after firefighters responded to the intentional blaze. This arrest in Udine followed an international alert.
