Mid-2026 saw a dense schedule of rock and metal releases, characterized by a mix of emerging independent acts and major industry reissues. In July, calendars highlighted a diverse array of upcoming albums, including works by Boundaries, Loathe, Motionless In White, Protest the Hero, and Psycroptic, alongside releases from Meshuggah and Deep Purple. As the month progressed, independent activity surged. German metal act Finsterforst released ‘Still’, while various black metal, death-doom, and industrial-noise projects such as Horrid Massdrop and Anatomy of Habit debuted new material. In Australia, the indie-punk and noise-punk scenes saw activity from MILKSICK, Mumdeathcake, and Petrol Bomb. August activity continued with the reissue of ‘The Progressive Rock Box Set’, featuring Helloween and Anthrax, and the release of Combichrist’s industrial-metal album, ‘The Venom In The Mouth Of God’. The week of August 21 brought further diversity with Chelsea Wolfe releasing ‘The Dark’ and Dark Funeral debuting the live album ‘A Beast To Praise’. Other notable August entries included a reissue of Danzig’s ‘Deth Red Sabaoth’ and the My Dying Bride boxset ‘Anthology Of Sombre Reflections’, alongside new singles from Nickelback, Cult Of Luna, Anthrax, Down, and Floor Jansen. Looking ahead to September, the release schedule remains heavy with new studio material from Neil Young and Anthrax, as well as significant anniversary reissues from David Bowie, The Mothers of Invention, and Phil Collins, alongside a 14-disc Joy Division live box set.
