After governors of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam urged universities to lead the 100‑week “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” programme in late July, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the initiative on 2 August 2026 via video conference. The launch marked the start of the “Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan”, a nationwide Jan Bhagidari movement coordinated by the MY Bharat volunteer network and partnered with schools, colleges, NGOs and other youth organisations. The campaign targets roughly 10,000 locations and aims to engage over one crore (10 million) young people through a drug‑free pledge. Weekly “Sunday Jan Bhagidari” activities will include sports events, walk‑athons, meditation sessions, cultural programmes, awareness drives, nukkad nataks, discussion forums, art competitions and community‑engagement projects. Volunteers making significant contributions will be recognised at the 50th, 75th and 100th‑week milestones. A regional launch in Uttarakhand saw more than 800 youths pledge support, illustrating the grassroots reach of the effort, which aligns with the broader “Nasha Mukt Bharat” vision and the development goal “Viksit Bharat 2047”. The programme is further coordinated with the National Service Scheme and over 125 spiritual organisations, expanding its network of partners across the country. Modi emphasized that drug abuse threatens individual careers, families and national security, warning that hostile states could exploit the drug trade as a terror tactic, thereby framing the campaign as both a health and security priority.
