India has concluded the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with a record-breaking total of 114 medals (30 gold, 35 silver, and 49 bronze). This performance surpasses the previous national record of 108 medals set at the 2023 Hangzhou Games, notably achieved despite a smaller contingent of 168 athletes compared to the 303 sent in the previous edition. India finished fourth in the overall medal standings, trailing China, Japan, and Uzbekistan. Para-athletics remained the primary driver of the tally, contributing a record 65 medals, including 22 golds. Key highlights included Sandeep Singh Maan setting a world record in the men’s 400m T64 (52.28 seconds) and Honey (Haney) setting a world record in the men’s javelin F37/38 with a throw of 60.49m. Sumit Antil also successfully defended his title in the F42-44/61-64 combined event. In shooting, Mona Agarwal secured two gold medals, including a world record in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions SH1. Nishad Kumar earned two gold medals in the men’s high jump and long jump T47 events, with his high jump victory setting a new Games record of 2.04m. Other significant victories included gold medals in para-archery for the compound mixed team of Sheetal Devi and Toman Kumar, as well as the men’s recurve doubles featuring Harvinder Singh and Vijay Sundi. In badminton, Nitesh Kumar (SL3) secured gold by defeating compatriot Pramod Bhagat, while Naveen Sivakumar (SL4) also claimed the men’s singles title. The badminton contingent also saw success from the duo of Thulasimathi Murugesan and Manasi Joshi.
